Hum… not my preferred solution, but I am sure that what the Anytype team is planning is well thought out and an improvement!
Just one question: How will the data migration be, from users who have Sets and Collections to Lists?

I would love all of these things - especially grouping when in table view
I would also like the option to save ‘views’ so you can reuse them, e.g. you could do a slash command and insert an inline set or collection from a saved view. And then also use saved views as widgets - so I can add a new object easily to the view from the widget / quick add shortcut - that has all the tags etc for that view.
I wrote something similar in the Point 17 about copying views but saving views is also good thing to have.
Oh, I found something else related to the Calendar view. Perhaps I will add it to the post in the number 18.
You cannot add an object to the Calendar view in any way, such as by hovering over a cell and showing the ‘Add Object’ option or by dragging the object to another day.
Another thing is that I am unable to clear the date by right-clicking and selecting ‘Clear Date Relation.’
Thank you for your detailed description!
IMHO all these functionalities are minimum 2 to 3 years development time from now. Especially the core DB functionalities and automations.
Relations are a complete mess, unless one has a completely predefined structure of the whole space from the beginning. This is because the relations are not at the DB level but are at space level.
If one wants to have DB-level relays, one must name them in a way that is obvious so that you know which relays refer to which DB.
This’s long time for me since I want to move in early 2025, my expectations.
Some items on the list are more necessary than others. For example, I can live without recurring objects, Sub-objects, no cover in kanban view, or simple automation for now. because it will not change a lot of the structure of my system.
But features like Grouping, calculate in cell, first image as cover, wrapping grid, More Relation option to tweaks, Automation to select Template in filters and many others need to be the first.
Sorry, I don’t see any plans for recurring objects, nor sub-objects etc. in 2024 roadmap. The project management part is neglected at this stage of development. IMO this is the funcionalities that most of the potential clients would pay.
For me, personally, productivity notetaking software is:
All these with a small learning curve. It’s interesting to learn new software, but not for all users. I created several sets of movies, music, etc. just for learning purposes. I don’t have the time to maintain such time-consuming activities instead of spent some time with my family,
It’s so simple: fast, smart, and productive software that saves me time.
For casual users like you, maybe you’re not interested in these features that, in my opinion, already save time. Which part sounds confusing?
And you didn’t mention the Business part? Not all users are just people who take notes and manage their regular life; some of them even want to manage a studio or company.
In one of the features, I listed, which is grouping, you mentioned that you have a set for movies. What if you can group the view by tags, like the genre of the movie, so you can easily see all movies by genre?
Of which part I mention is time consuming?
And I mentioned recurring objects and sub-objects one of the lowest priorities for me. Read the Reply again.
You need to be aware that not all people want to save music, recipes, etc. Some have skills and specialty they need to maintain in this software, like me as a 2D/3D artist, UI/UX designer, Web developer, and game developer.
And naming them
Another feature I’d like is a preview of the content in gallery view - like in Capacities. I love this feature in Capacities because it makes it easier to see the contents of each object at a glance
Very well articulated post.
I think you adroitly extracted the common pains we are all feeling
Cheers
I think a task with a sub-task can directly imply the task linking to the sub-task.
Hello super topique indeed I use Notion in company and we wish to migrate towards a solution auto heberger and open source anytype seems the most advanced.
The functionality that I miss the most are the grouping by type person or other in the table, the calendar that does not display an end date or the ability to move the task, and finally the filter are really not complete ![]()
On the other hand, the calculation functionality in the tables is available. I don’t know since which version, but I can do average sums and so on. Which is great because it’s a key feature for me too.
I also read your topic on improving the user interface, very good work, and I hope the anytype team takes inspiration from it ![]()
I love your input! these are great suggestions.
Brilliant post, indeed. @GrayArc, would it be possible to also mark the features that have already been implemented as done/checked? It’d be interesting to revisit this post every once in a while and see which ones have already been delivered. I’m sure everyone’s eager to use at least some of these features.
I had forgotten about the existence of this wonderful post. A year and a little after it, the things I wrote about that would not be available for at least 2-3 years are still not and are not on the horizon. (may be i’m wrong; I have not been following what is happening with Anytype for 1 year)
Because of my conviction in the quoted prediction, I stopped using Anytype and switched to the following three applications:
I would pay for Anytype, but, unfortunately, it is very far from the functionalities described here. Maybe in 2-3 years, if they are implemented at all. In its current state, it does not work for me.
