I currently use Obsidian and have multiple videos ranging from 500MB to 1.2GB, where I only need to access them on my PC and don’t sync them with my phone. I looked around but couldn’t find anyone talking about a way to just embed the video/image/mp3 without saving it in the vault/space. I’d like to know if there’s a way to do that.
If there isn’t an option to just embed the file/URL, it’d be interesting if, when you drag a file to the canvas, it asks whether you want to sync it or just embed it.

After building from the source and messing around a bit, it only works with online images—and just images. The “online” part is easy to fix, but it’d be interesting to have support for videos too.
(And changing the scale of the embedded images without sync isn’t working either)
It seems at times topics are closed when really they have not been solved at all.
The OP clearly stated the referenced Request only satisfies images, not video.
This topic also further opens up the question of potential usefulness to also allow/disallow certain objects or types from being synced at all. In case of videos, make it even more granular and allow setting in the type, a size threshold below which it would sync; above it it stays on that single device.
This could ride on the work being done with ‘sharing’ an object with another person. Because locally syncing to a phone is type of a share.
