Default template not applied through API

WHAT IS THE BUG

When I set a default template on a type and then use the API or MCP to create a new object in it, the default template doesn’t show up.

HOW TO REPRODUCE IT

  • Set a default template
  • Create a new object with no specified template in the same type through the API or using an LLM with the local MCP server

THE EXPECTED BEHAVIOR

The default template gets applied even when not specifying a template in the request parameters. I would expect a template to be specified to be set when a default is not set, but that’s the point of setting a default template - one shouldn’t need to be specified on creation. If we explicitly want to create an object with no template, there should be a different way to set that in the API.
