Can channels be combined?
Or, have you faced similar questions and found a workaround?

Hello! I’m new to Anytype and really enjoying learning it. Focused Curiosity’s channel on YT has been especially helpful.
As I experiment and learn to use Anytype, I’m wondering if it is possible to combine info from channels in the future. I understand currently that I can’t link to from one channel to another, but am curious if there is a workaround.
The reason I’m asking is because I haven’t committed to a dashboard fully yet (though I did check out the gallery for ideas). So far, I have:
1 personal channel
1 work channel
1 trip planning channel that I intend to share
I like the separation between work and personal, but it’s been interesting to check out the gallery and see how some dashboards combine the two so that calendars and tasks can live together in the same dashboard. And while trip planning can theoretically live under personal, I don’t need to share everything else in the personal channel when sharing trip.

Channels are separated. You can link between them using the object links, but this acts more like a web/hyperlink than it does a true ‘cross-link’ with rich content being shared across both channels.
Typically, if you don’t need to separate channels you can put everything in one channel. You separate it more because of permissions (shared spaces) typically.
So it depends on what you want to do and what do you mean by ‘link’ between channels.
Thanks Kaye, you’re spot on about how I would prefer the links to be content rich. Just curious, do most Anytype users use one channel for work/personal or keep them separate successfully? Thinking about how this would affect building and using a calendar/agenda.
On another note, if I place my databases on trip planning, would the permissions to share only show one object at a time based on link?
There is not object level permissions, only channel-wide permissions. You can web-publish single objects though that’s accessible via web link.
The question of whether or not you have work or personal in one channel, again, is based on your permissions. If you’re not sharing the space with anybody else, then you can literally have them together. It’s easier to have everything in one space in general, but if you permissions don’t allow for it then the decision is made for you.
I’m using — or misusing — sections/channels as my main thematic navigation.
Of course I would much rather have fillable, configuable, nestable custom “folders”, so I could set up my own navigation structure within a space/channel.
Anytype only has a two-level navigation structure
Spaces/Channels → Widgets/Links
So I’m using spaces/channels as my main thematic layer and pinned queries as the second layer.
Navigation in PKM tools is fundamentally important, but rarely well done. When it’s well-structured, it not only makes it easier for beginners to get started, but also benefits everyone in their daily use.
Thanks Kaye, as I have spent more time on Anytype I’m feeling more familiar and comfortable with it. Still haven’t combined them but might do so. Really enjoying Anytype!
