Can not share Entry Space

Hi,

I just upgraded to a paid platform. I can see that my space is listed as “entry space”???

What is this, and how can I convert it to something I can share?

Also, if I need to set up a new space for this, can I export everything from the original one?

And will my account storage (256 GB) still apply to this space?

Thanks!

Hey @davecol. Storage space is for your whole account / vault, and it’s shared between spaces. The first space you get is your default or entry space and that one can’t be shared. You can freely create up to 10 additional spaces for yourself, and you can share up to 3 of them.

Yes, you can export your entry space, and import it to your secondary spaces. Keep in mind that you will still not be able to delete your entry space.

Is this the intended solution or is this still being worked on? I also cannot share my entry space which is where I have all my things, it seems really odd to have to create a second space and keep this deprecated space just taking up storage as dead weight. It would be nice to be able to delete it, or even better change the space type to one that can be shared.

The entry space is needed, and it can’t be deleted, because it stores some necessary profile info, but we do have plans on fixing this in the future.

My primary space is not the entry space, because I didn’t realize that it had this distinction. As a result, every time I start the app, I have to switch spaces to my primary space. This is VERY annoying. Is there a way to make a different space the default on startup?

Really hoping this seemingly meaningless distinction goes away - not sure why profile information would be stored there.

The last used space is what is supposed to be opened when you re-start the app. Are you sure the same space is being opened?

That works most of the time. When the app is killed and restarted and at other times randomly it opens the entry space.

This happens very frequently for me in the iOS app. I literally never use the entry space because it was the first place that I experimented with Any type before creating the space that I would put most of my data in. I didn’t realize that I wouldn’t be able to change the default. Space. It’s a constant annoyance and feels very beta.

Since you didn’t mention which app you used, I assumed you meant desktop. It also seems to work properly even if I kill the app on Android.
If you are having issues with this on iOS, please write a separate bug report.

On desktop this happens if you open a new instance / window.

Sorry, but I couldn’t reproduce that one either. Please create a bug report if you are able to reproduce it.

Hey, may I ask what would be the best way to export the entry space onto a secondary space? Ideally, I’d like to clone it, without losing the setup / structure, the only reason I need to do this is that on ios, the app will only open to my entry space by default, which is not my main space and is annoying to have to switch spaces each time I am using anytype on my phone, this doesn’t happen on Mac, anytype will open up to whichever space I was using the last time.

I couldn’t find any info on the export options or what each one means, should I export to 'Any-Block"? JSON or Protobuf? Zip Archive or not?

Thanks in advance

The best combination would probably be Anyblock - Protobuf using a zip file.

Thank you Fillip! I will try that.

Since I am here, I have one more question, I have the latest Sequoia & Anytype is up to date, in the settings, I enabled the option to “automatically show & hide side bar” but each time I open the app, that setting is disabled again, so I basically have to go to settings and enable it each time I open the app, am I missing something or is this a bug?

That seems like a separate issue. Please create a bug report for it and we’ll look into it.
