Touch ID/Face ID as an option to lock and open the mobile apps.
HOW COULD IT BE DONE
Implement existing option available from Apple for devs.
REAL WORLD USE CASES
If option is selected, upon opening the app, you’ll be asked to use Touch ID/Face ID in order to open the app. It provides an additional layer of security so that only the owner can see app content regardless of who is using it (eg: kids, friends, etc.)
RECOMMENDED ALTERNATIVES
Touch ID/Face ID would be the main method for this particular layer of security.
There was a similar recommendation in 2021 but it was specific to pages instead of the entire app. I see merit in doing it for pages and other types but my post is just for the app at the moment.
Hi, I searched for this but couldn’t find anything. Apologies if it already exists and I missed it.
WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND?
On Windows desktops, it’s really useful to protect with a PIN, especially when using a laptop. However, this feature seems to be completely missing on Android. It would be very helpful to add a similar protection when opening spaces on Android.
A PIN feature, like on Windows, would be greatly appreciated.
it’s been 2 years since this was requested, and you’ve already got a PIN feature. I get that we’ve got the ability to lock the app using the OS itself. But it’s a much more intuitive system to have it built in and enhanced using the OSs services that they provide to lock the app
Hi, I’m also very interested in this feature.
It’s the main reason i haven’t started to use anytype now as i want to be able to check my content on both computer and android.. but both secured the same way.
Why doesn’t the Android APK have a separate lock screen PIN?
Using the system’s built-in lock screen makes it easy to exposure the key.
If adding an independent lock screen PIN isn’t difficult, please add it.
If it’s for compliance reasons, please let us know.
Example:
Usually, using a mobile phone, the unlock is done using biometric authentication; if the APK does not have an separate lock screen pin, it is easy for someone to unlock it and take the key while you are dizzy or sleeped.
End of 2025 and still no in-app lock options for mobile. >:[
For a service that promotes itself on the basis of security and privacy, this should have been a day 1 feature. Trying to rely on OS workarounds does not cover all cases and can be cumbersome. I use the app on Mac, Windows, iOS, Android, and eOS. The desktop apps have pin locks so it’s incredibly strange that the mobile ones don’t. Android and iOS have workarounds to add biometric locks but eOS does not.
I’m disappointed to see that this was requested way back in 2022 and acknowledged by the team but there still isn’t anything implemented. Being able to lock the app and also disable notification previews is really important for privacy.
