The anytype.io domain is expiring tomorrow (Jan 10, 2026). I brought this upcoming domain expiration to support via email last month when it was 30 days till expiry but didn’t get any acknowledgement about it, now it’s just 1 day till the domain expires.
I have many domains myself and I do not leave domains to renew on the day of expiry, even if it’s automatic, especially for domains that are active and holds a website with lots of visitors; and this is when none of my domains are remotely close to as big as anytype.io.
If auto renew is turned on, some registrars will charge the card on file and renew the domain 30 days before the expiry as to not encounter any problems, some at 14 days, some at 60 etc. Some registrars will only charge the card payment and renew the expiring domain on the very day of expiry, this is assuming that there will be no problems with the card payment. And some registrars will charge the card x amount of days ahead of time but will only extend the domain ownership on the day of expiry, personally I would still not risk it especially for a domain like anytype.io in case there’s a problem anywhere along the lines.
Lots of things would go down if there is a problem with the renewal, there are lots of backend subdomains using anytype.io, and then there are subdomains like blog, tech, and this community.anytype.io that would also go down if there’s a hiccup. I can’t imagine Notion, Obsidian, Facebook, Gmail, etc leaving their domain to the very last day to extend the ownership via a script by the registrar.
What do you guys think, is the take of not leaving a domain as big as Anytype to renew on the very last day an unpopular opinion?
