Anytype Desktop 0.39.0 Released (Spoiler alert: Web Clipper is here!) 🌸

Greetings, Anytypers!

As we chug along towards multiplayer, we’re excited to bring you another release packed with some huge features, some of which have been several months in-the-making. We hope you’ll enjoy this update and as always, we eagerly anticipate your feedback!

:gem: HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS RELEASE

Introducing: Anytype Webclipper

The wait is over - we’re beyond excited to bring you v1 of the Anytype webclipper. For those of you using Chrome browsers, you’ll be able to install the Anytype web clipper using this link.

Once installed, you have two options to save content from the web:

  1. Click the web clipper extension icon in your toolbar to save web pages as new objects in Anytype, or
  2. Select a text snippet, right click, and add the text to any previously-created object in your space.

Files as Objects

A huge update for your Anytype files: you can now rename and add relations to your files, making it much easier to sort and manage your images, videos, PDFs, and other files. In addition, you can link files to objects by using the @ mention or Link-to commands from your object editor.

In-app Experience Gallery

To make browsing and installing experiences easier, the Experience Gallery has now been added to Anytype. Open your spaces navigation tab, tap ā€˜Gallery’, and install the experience of your choice.

:zap: QUALITY-OF-LIFE IMPROVEMENTS

ā€˜Export’ Option Added to Right-click Menu for Sets/Collections

For easier batch exporting, the right-click menu in sets and collections now includes the Export option. When clicking Export, a popup will appear asking you to define your export settings.

Right-click Menu added to Objects in Library

When opening types or relations from your library, you can now multi-select the objects from the list and right-click to batch edit object type, delete, export, or add to favorites. You can also select individual objects and create widgets from them.

Widgets for Recently Opened / Recently Edited Objects Now Grouped by Date

When opening your widgets for Recently Opened or Recently Edited Objects, you can now see which Objects fall under Today, Yesterday, Past 7 days, and Older.

Kroki, Sketchfab, and Github Gist Embeds Can be Created by Pasting Links

No need to create an embed block first - you can simply paste the links in your object editor and see the option to paste as embed.

ā€˜Import Type’ Relation has been Added

Objects which have been installed or imported, such as use cases or export files, will now come with relation: Import Type indicating the imported format, which can be Any-block, Markdown, or PDF.

Corner Radiuses for Selected Blocks have been Updated

For better visual consistency, corner radiuses for blocks selected in the editor have been updated.

Graph and Flow Added to Global Search

You can now use the global search menu to navigate to your Graph and Flow tabs.

Czech, Lithuanian & Korean Added to Interface Languages

Thanks to our contributors who’ve helped with these translations, we now have 22 languages available for Desktop!

:computer: TECH

  • Electron updated to v28.2

:bug: FIXES

  • Change Object Type menu no longer includes current object type. Thanks, @sambouwer!
  • Title block spacing remains consistent no matter how many blocks are in the object. Thanks, @SpaceLemon!

Love it! Such a cool update, you guys just deliver top notch quality. Quick question: Is a Safari extension planned?

Great stuff! :tada:
Waiting for the firefox version of the web clipper :).

Unfortunately Firefox does not support background scripts in manifest v3, it’s only in the development, so I’m waiting. As for Safari - I can’t give any estimates right now.

I wonder what alien object type is used for :laughing:

nice

Hello ! Do you mean Electron v28.2.x (as on their website Electron Releases (electronjs.org) ) ?

@C.c
For all those who don’t meet the ā€˜human’ category  :alien:x

@LePapalouf

Hello ! Do you mean Electron v28.2.x (as on their website Electron Releases (electronjs.org) ) ?

Yes, thank you for the catch! Now corrected.

webclipper is nice, shame about the lack of Safari support though. why not implement a share extension on mac same as is done on the iOS app?

Start with one thing and make it great and then go over to the next thing…

Chrome has a way bigger audience.

Mac Share sheet is on the agenda.

Didn’t know how much I missed right-click menus until these quality of life updates! :star_struck:

Yep, the best thing - you can change type of objects, so updating becomes easier.

Agree with a few other comments here… AnyType works so well, and looks fantastic, on macOS and iOS, so it’s a shame the web clipper isn’t compatible with Safari yet! I think a lot of Mac users still use Safari regularly, so really hoping the team can port the Chrome extension over to Safari… I’m waiting anxiously (along with many others I would think!)

Cam.

nice,it is very cool

It would be nice to be able to search the file type.
At the moment File objects don’t show up in search results.

Also to add filter by type within the search.
For example if I search for ā€œfile: Tesā€
Then the search results will only show file objects that contain ā€œTesā€

Nice ideas @Ayash4444 , please make a feature request, I will vote for it

@Angelo
There is ā€œSearch improvementsā€ in the Github roadmap

Do the team already know what are the projects, what will be included?
Or perhaps a discussion topic will be opened around this?
Or perhaps it’s a good idea to launch all our ideas via FR first?
(research has major areas for improvement, I’ve never taken the time to share on the subject, telling myself that it was going to be overhauled anyway, but maybe I was wrong).

@Ayash4444 I think this FR is close to what you want (and what I really want to!).
For example, it could be used to search for ā€œfiletype:pdfā€.
Angalo can vote too
