Anytype Android 0.42 – Multi-Chats Essentials

Hello Community!
Space Channels now support multiple conversations. In this release, we’re rolling out core multi-chat features, plus a set of small but meaningful upgrades to everyday navigation – like opening a Bookmark as an Object from the long-tap menu. Upcoming releases will provide full support for multi-chats on Android.

Multi-Chats in Your Space

Chats now function as native Objects in your Spaces: you can organize them into different views, include them in Queries or Collections, and mention them from any Object for cross-referencing. As a system Type, Chat doesn’t support templates or layout changes.

Pin the Chats Type to display unread counters and mention indicators right in the Widget. To see the preview of the latest messages, adjust the Widget appearance (List).

New Menu for Object Types

Access the new three-dots menu on any Object Type to manage key actions:

  • Update any Type’s Icon for easier identification.
  • Pin / Unpin your favorite Types and access them from the Pinned section in your Widgets.
  • Send unused Types to the Bin.

Long-Tap Menu for Objects

Long-tap now opens a context menu for Objects in Queries, Collections, and Types. From there you can:

  • Open as Objects (useful for Bookmarks).
  • Copy a link to an Object.
  • Move to the Bin.

Widgets Update

  • For Object Types in the Pinned section, you can now change the appearance: View, Compact list, List, or Link.
  • New pinned Widgets are automatically placed first for easier access.

Vault Improvements

  • The Channels Hub now has a more consistent structure and updated label.
  • Spaces and Chats load more predictably, with smoother transitions when data is syncing.

Link Block Interaction

It is now possible to tap on a line containing only a link to place the cursor there; navigation to the URL occurs only when tapping the link itself, and long-tapping a block now selects it without navigating away. Many thanks to @alensiljak for the contribution!

Bug Fixes

  • Deleted messages no longer appear in previews on the Channels screen (Vault).

  • Fixed an issue where the caret would not move while editing the Space Title.

  • The See all button now navigates to the currently active view.

  • Menus no longer appear unexpectedly when dragging Widgets.

Thank you so much to everyone involved, particularly the Android team @konstantiniiv and Kozlov.

This release resolves probably the last major issue I had with AnyType (mobile) as a PKM tool. It becomes very usable for everyday operation, for my use cases.

I guess, from here it can only get better.

Looks great. Any plans to release the android app on Fdroid either in the official Fdroid repo or by self hosting a fdroid repo for the anytype app?

They could self host a fdroid repo and host the app that way
