A way to differentiate an object that is already linked to a collection and "unlink from" option

WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND

Hello!
I have run into this problem.

Let’s say I have a collection called - Journal.
Then I press ctrl+N and create an object called “xx/xx/xx date’s journal entry”.
Then I link it to the journal collection.

But, the next day, I open the “recently edited tab” and see the “xx/xx/xx date’s journal entry.”
And I find out that I have forgotten if I have linked the object to the “journal” collection.

There is no way for me to know from the recently tabs or even the search menu, if I have already added the object to the collection or not. I can only open the collection and search for the object there to see if the object is part of the collection or not.

This may not be an issue if I only make one object a day, as I can sort the collection to show the last added object on top of the list. But I usually add multiple objects in a day, from the + button the the quick access bar or by pressing ctrl+N (in the same collection).

If I right-click on an object, set, or collection, then the pop-up menu will always show the option “link to ->”, even if the object, set, or collection is already linked to the collection I am trying to link it to.

HOW COULD IT BE DONE

For an object that is already linked to a collection or another object, When I right-click on it, the pop-up menu should have an additional option called “unlink from ->”.
Hovering over this option should bring up a list of all the collections or objects that this object is linked to.
Then I can click on these “linked objects” and unlink them.

RECOMMENDED ALTERNATIVES

I can add every relevant new object from the relevant collection. But using the “+” button in the bottom quick access bar or just typing ctrl+n is a much quicker way to add objects, and I don’t want to lose that speed. And I need a way to unlink objects from a collection without accessing the collection every time.

Enjoying the calendar in the beta version. I know more features are to come. I am also excited about multi-space and multi-player.

Thanks, and good day.

Perhaps the in-development feature here will help, if we can easily see link (so show if our object is already linked to a collection) :

That’s very interesting.
But it seems that I have to open the object to see which other objects it is linked to. Am I right in my understanding?
I was looking for a way to unlink the object from any other object or collection from the pop-up menu without opening the object, just like how I can link an object to a collection by right-clicking on the object, without opening it.

OK, I don’t think the feature “display links” was enough for that, thanks for the precision.

Thanks for replying. This, only being able to unlink an object from collection has been a problem for me, along with only being able to add an existing object to a collection, only from the object. I hope this can be implimented soon.
Thanks.

This brings a different application level to finding similar / duplicate items - Duplicate links. :hushed:

I imagine functions showing full locations (within objects) of global / in-object Search results would support this need.

Bumping this!

And also, not sure if this warrants an extra FR, but it’d be nice to differentiate already created collections from other objects when selecting the “Link to” to link to a collection. Or as an alternative, to create a different menu to add to Collections (rather than sharing the linking function) and perhaps even allowing the quick creation of new collections.

If you use many collections and/or linking, it gets messy really fast to remember all their names to link them quickly.
