I always felt a good compromise was to leave the bar where it is, but auto-hide it with CSS…that is what I do in 0.44 version
I must admit that I got my hopes up when I saw the little arrow appear. I thought that my wish of providing access to the different vault through a switcher was implemented
after using the new UI now for a while I still think removing the bottom bar was a bad decision:
- The design and position of the new quick add menu feels awkward when you have scrolled down in the sidebar. When I use the keyboard shortcut CMD+Alt+N the menu appears on top of the widgets, which is quite strange. I much more preferred the centralized quick add menu in the old UI
- When I’m not using the keyboard I have to scroll always all the way up to the top widget to find the drop-down button to add an object. This was so quick having the bottom bar…
- all the widgets have a plus and a dropdown button. But they don’t have the same function… this is very confusing for new users
- removing the bottom bar on the Desktop version makes it even more unaligned with the iOS versions
I think it just isn’t there yet… I can understand the new position of the back and forth button on the top left of the page but the new object buttons seem to be placed very awkward.
Or am I unable to see it in the bigger perspective?
My suggestion is to make the widget of the current space along with the button “New” sticky, so that it is always accessible.
At least the button “New” has become a little more noticeable as it has a border now, so the +icon stands out a little from the +icons of the other widgets.
