I didn’t react because there was no point.
But actually, I’m going to defend the point of view of a fake user, because it might be interesting. And because I want to
.
Because yes, I’m not a real user, booo
.
I use Anytype a lot, every day, but differently from a “classic” user.
I have 4 accounts, each with its own particularities.
I currently have 3 different versions on my PC (I think one of my accounts has changed from primitives ↔ 45.3 several times without a problem by the way
).
I do a lot of imports.
I test setting up more or less complex databases, spending a lot of time on it but not really using it afterwards.
As a fake user, yes, I thank the team and the work done, I try to put myself in their shoes too and understand their difficulties (my job gives me an insight into some of them).
And yet, as a fake user…
- I currently have a dozen of open bugs
- I currently have over 40 open FRs
… not counting those I’ve marked to follow. - I’m refusing to use it because it’s missing things that are essential for my use, and yes, even as a fake user, I’m annoyed and impatient.
- I raise points on which I don’t understand or disagree with the current operation. I’ve started a topic on chat, another on the UI, the poor relation of development, I’ve also raised the problems of “V1s” that are often not really usable, development timescales, communication that should be richer (so many requests without any reaction, not knowing if it’s been rejected, put aside, studied or just read…) or even the interest in facilitating participation in development.
And I can only give my opinion, because I know that one person’s needs are not necessarily another person’s needs, much to my chagrin.
Fanboy? Perhaps. But realistically, that’s why I’m not a real user, but I’m not knocking the team for that. On the contrary, that’s why I take so much time to help where I can and to criticize constructively or by opening an exchange to gather more opinions.
Even so, if Anytype doesn’t finalize the “note-taking” part of the application… I still have in mind the risk of having to do without it.
Anyway,
Thanks to the team, from whom we always expect more but who support us all the same (thanks unpaid… but a little return on my FR in exchange?
)
And thank you to all those who, like me, real users or not, expect a lot from Anytype but also understand the constraints and conflicts of interest in the community (and surely in the team?), and who consequently participate constructively!
