Embed images from web

Is this a duplicate of:

I just went through that and the related thread. The “embedding” is marked as complete but the preview of remote images is not possible.

Otherwise, I’d say it is the same request. Just different terminology used, hence not finding it beforehand. This should be merged, not to dissipate votes (all 6 of them!).

Hey, it’s not marked as complete yet. It’s still in progress because we stumbled upon some potential security issues while implementing it.

Thank you for the news!

There are some large images that I really don’t want to download into my space, just cache locally. And it doesn’t matter if they disappear from the web. Some of them are hosted on my public cloud storage folder, anyway. The point being separating notes from binaries. There is that gray area where the image is not necessarily a part of the Note.

Edit:

I’ll just add an example here, if the request is too abstract, makes no sense, or things that more compression would help somehow. Although, I agree that JXL could help with that a bit.

I have a collection with hi-res images of Fokker I in my page on the topic. I don’t own them and I really don’t need dozens of megabytes (or more?) of these images taking space in my notes vault. The vault is something I back up often, synchronize among different devices, and so on. The images are on public web sites, like Wikipedia. So, if they disappear one day, that’s fine. I just need to keep a link to them and be able to preview the image in the note instead of opening the page that hosts them and then clicking the image. Literally the same workflow the embedded videos have.

The images that I want to keep, and usually use for other purposes than having them in my Notes (i.e. trip photo highlights), I will copy to a publicly (or not) available storage elsewhere and link / embed from there.
