### What do you need help with?

this app is HORRENDOUS with being clear about things.
there seem to be many things worth trying… IF one knew how to get started!
terrible UX/ user interface. completely lacking on TONS OF intuitiveness.
support does not respond… for days… weeks! (maybe bc they hate someone trying to learn how to use their software?)

i am finding tutorials and guidance online but it is all outdated buttons and functions. i have found nothing as of yet that looks like the updated version i am using (current 55.3?).

i dont even know why im being patient and still trying to be informed/guided in understanding this poor anytype lingo and guidance etc. what a mess.
anyone using it and FINALLY understands it that either wants to explain it clearly, or offer input if i should pack up and run the other way, asap?
what a nightmare of an app. im sure its crazy powerful… but u have to learn their messed up way of poorly labeling and speaking about things to even know how to explore the stupid thing.

plz advise.

Hi @iamchad. It’d be helpful if you outline what exactly you’re looking to accomplish, that way people can try to be helpful in pointing the way. I understand you’re frustrated, but simply stating the app isn’t intuitive, is stupid, and a nightmare doesn’t give an avenue forward for you.

Although if Anytype has been this frustrating for you so far, frankly you may be better suited to a more mature application with much more documentation, tutorials, and beginner guides.

thanks for the reply kaye. i can take this post down eventually… but this is part of the issue… u are likely one that has been getting my emails, with yet no response. im being sent ‘noreply’ emails instead with further ‘common public’ attachments of irrelevant stuff… while never being asked what the issue is, AND then exploring it with me/ US. i appreciate u are asking now - publicly - but we could just list all the details and examples iv given in my emails, and also posted in this forum (also publicly) somewhere.

i think ANYTYPE could also care to take more ownership for the countless ppl who dont understand crap about ANYTYPEs lingo/ labeling/ and guidance (there are several cases of ‘sefl proclaimed programmers’ saying they dont even understand how the heck to use the app).

why dont u guys first respond to us (me?) and figure out where the mess is?
im still giving credit that the app appears pretty dang powerful and versatile.
i think i will love it… but, i think the majority of anyone whos ever touched the app is long gone.

i am still here. hope that is worth something.

so would ANYTYPE like to respond to my specific cases, examples, and questions in my emails, or would u like me to repost them here?
(my experience with the forum, however, where i was advised to go (by ANYTYPE)… i get locked out for some reason (also a specific example presented in my emails to you guys); and ppl who do understand this app (supposedly), attempt to be helpful (and its much appreciated), but also dont seem to know how to explain/ describe/ guide others through the mess either. this terminology IS a nightmare.. and by definition, probly a bit stupid (but your point is taken as well. thank u. calling it these things probly doesnt help me much).
please unnightmare it for me. SOMEONE! plz (ha)

should we do this here, or via email? and, will someone respond in less than weeks?
i care to learn this app. it sounds cool… but looks like u guys have 10times the work bc no one knows how to use this thing or describe elements of it (and online tells me, im not the only one).

(A TIP\> u guys could really help the morale of how the app is received if u dove into new user questions and examples differently.
heres a story for ANYTYPE. ur massive competitor - CAPACITIES - SUCKED long ago. it made similarly no sense (kinda where anytype is now. maybe worse. i dont recall)… but it was baaaad. something wildly different happened (since the new onboard? ill never know), but it feels ike its a NEW APP. its still a bit confusing but my guess is the majority of users energy is going to enhancing their data… not trying to figure out where buttons are, or why does this do this and that does that, holy crap.
its a complex thing u PKMs are trying to introduce to the data world - respect for that)

we can start here… how do i start using ANYTYPE? what are the first 3 buttons u suggest clicking to start seeing how it works? what is the "oldest AND most current| version where the main tier menus are consistent (when and where is this special triangle button? i see it in almost every tutorial iv ever watched…but its nowhere to be found on my latest version, and appears to be a pretty helpful button to reference)? is there any online resources that are (somewhat) constantly up to date (with each version) (so u dont need to answer emails, that u guys already dont)?

i hate the APP… but, i am pretty determined to love it.

@iamchad You sound similar to me 2,5 years ago.
I was sooo frustrated then!
But after some weeks, I became one of the most active users here.

2,5 years ago, Anytype was really horrible. More bugs then features and the features worked only poorly.
Today, the situation is very different!
There are still bugs, yes. There are still half-baked features, yes. But, overall, the thing is great and it becomes better and better!

For me it’s the best available choice. And I will stay with it o matter how much more matured the competitors are.

But I admit: it needs some weeks for a beginner to grasp all the concepts.
Some things could be better, that would help to become faster familiar with the thing.
But if you take in into account that it simply needs some weeks, you will love it from day to day more.
Each little enlightenment offers you more possibilities.
Over time, you want never be without it (despite the flaws).
And each new version becomes better. Yes, for some implementations we need to wait longer then expected. But if this or that feature finally has become implemented, it feels as if it was there all the time.
Tabs are such an example. Tabs was requested again and again and we waited and waited and waited …
Now we have them! Forgotten is all the pain that we have suffered from while waiting.

If you have questions, I suggest to ask here in the forum.
The team can impossible have email conversations with each single new user.
Better ask here, so that experienced users can help you and other beginners also see the answers.

And please be very specific if you ask for something.
I know that there are sometimes a few snags at the same time, all related with each other. One doesn’t know where to start, there are so many things unclear.
But being specific forces you to think, to get structure in your own mind and to try some things to become able to ask.
This clearness already solves some problems all by itself.

I can’t know where you are and where it snags for you.
Therefore I can give only some general advices till you become specific:

1. Try to create a Page. Take three days to become familiar with everything you can do in the page editor.
Btw.: pressing “/” pops a menu up that gives you additional options.
Try everything: write something, delete something, paste a YouTube link, etc.
Also move some Blocks up and down or in a second column.
After tree days, you should be very familiar with the editor.
2. Now create a second and third, fourth Page.
Time now for trying the global search (Ctrl + k).
3. Now it’s time to create and test a Query, because it’s sooo much better then the global search!
Create a second and third View for that Query. Try to filter the Query for one or more Properties.
4. Now where you already have an vague idea what Properties are, try to make more of that knowledge.
Try to add Properties to your existing Pages. Also try to make a Template for new Pages.
5. Over time, you will see, that it makes sense to have different Templates for different kinds of data.
Time to become more familiar with Templates, and especially with Types.
For example, if you have five Pages, each for human contacts, like family members, these Pages have something in similar. While five other Pages in which you store embedded YouTube music, need different Properties and a different appearance.
You have different ways how you could organize that, simply play two days long with Properties, Templates and Types.

After that (it has needed some days), you are already able to do A LOT in Anytype! (But there is more!)
And every day your knowledge grows!
The best thing: you can make notes about your findings direct in Anytype!
Simply create a new Page “Anytype findings” and put each finding in that Page. Bring structure in that Page by using Expanders and headlines and the table of contents.

Anytype is not such a kind of software that you could use after a single day. You’ll need not only some days, but some weeks.
– It’s worth the time!
Anytype is a piece of software that lasts “forever”, till the end of your life.

@iamchad Anytype is currently in beta. It is not a mature product and it has a small team. We simply don’t have the ability to answer every email, resolve every bug, and answer all questions about how to use Anytype. This is not good or even acceptable outcome, but it’s the reality we’re in.

The reason why many materials are out of date is simply because we are constantly changing/updating and (hopefully) improving things. [This video I created a few months ago](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpPEl8VTPjg) is mostly up to date, but the latest public release a few weeks ago just changed the navigation of the widget panel. Functionality is mostly the same, but some UI differences are there. We have a new version of the docs almost ready, but it’s not published. And even then, it won’t be a great beginner experience.

You won’t like this answer, but I believe you will save yourself a lot of frustration and grief if you adopted a more mature solution with better documentation, tutorials, and beginner friendly user experience. Anytype is not good for beginners today, we 100% recognise and accept this. This also won’t change anytime soon. So rather than force yourself into a solution that’s clearly not good enough for your needs, I suggest Capacities, Tana, or the many other great products that exist today.

But if you want to be along for the crazy ride, you’re welcome to stay. Check out videos from Curie (focused curiostiy). And ignore the minor UI differences, the functionality is mostly the same. If you have something specific you want to accomplish, you can ask the community and I’m sure somebody can help you.

thanks codejack for the thorough response and encouragement on it. i get its not a day thing and its good to be confirmed from others that love it; i trust i would love it too. we see if i get there.
(thanks for the quick guide too… though it is a lot of those words that i think most of us are unsure ‘where to find them, or how to use them’… but nonetheless good to hear about this app through others eyes)

i understand the team may be small.
also didnt realize the entire app is a beta app. my apologies there for the high expectations.

thanks for including the video, and for the ownership that this may not be the app for me. this is admirable to hear.
very honest ownership. love that stuff.

i will be assessing what i do from here on.
thanks for the honest and kind response.

suggestion or 2:
-cant respond to all emails \> oc. not an issue but u should really set up an ‘auto acknowledge’ system asap, maybe. ‘sorry users, we may never respond bc we are developing an awesome app, that isnt as awesome as wed like yet’

-not sure whos on the team there… but i think u must find a better, different UX team… or challenge the focus in that arena a bit more. lot more. it could really improve things before its too late.

thanks again kaye

@kaye — honestly, he has a point. It might help a lot if every major UI overhaul came with a short, up-to-date YouTube walkthrough — just 3–5 minutes showing “here’s what changed and where things live now.” That would lower the barrier significantly for new users landing on outdated content.

Small UX thought: the version number might be more discoverable if it lived on the profile/identity page — right next to your avatar and Anytype ID — rather than buried in the “About Anytype” popup.

> [@iamchad](#):

> dkasj;hgdlga

@iamchad – I totally get it. I was in the exact same spot not too long ago. Once things clicked though, it genuinely felt easy.

Quick question: what are you coming from — Notion? Something else? Knowing your baseline helps a lot when explaining Anytype’s mental model, since some things are deliberately different by design.

If you’re here because you want your data private, local-first, and out of big-corp hands — while still having powerful databases and meaningful relations between them — it’s absolutely worth the learning curve. Give it 1–2 weeks of just clicking around and testing things. You’ll hit bugs, but the team actually fixes them when you report them.

> [@iamchad](#):
>
> A TIP\> u guys could really help the morale of how the app is received if u dove into new user questions and examples differently

One thing that genuinely helps: when feedback comes across as an attack, even valid points tend to get lost. Constructive criticism lands so much better than venting — the team is small and they’re real people. Not saying your frustration isn’t valid — it clearly is — but channeling it into specific, actionable observations will get you much further.

Understandable wish … from the point of view of a user who’s already “in”.
But for a beginner, it wouldn’t help so much.
Why?
– Because a beginner still needs a guidance how to start with everything.
It doesn’t help him to know that this or that feature now has changed in this or that way, if he still isn’t able to do the first steps.

And I must say, it’s not so easy to make a good beginner guide video.
I’ve thought about making one by myself often.
Already the very first steps (installing, basic settings for Vault ans Space, some cleanups in the Graph of the new and nearly “empty” Space) would need half a hour. And only after that could we start to create a first Page and show some basic concepts of the editor.

Problem is also: things change all the time.
You could make a very good video for beginners, that gives him fisrt the big picture and then goes into the details of the editor and how to setup collection, Queries, the Widgets, and so on.
But 1-2 months later, a lot has changed.

I know from my own experience with complicated software where you simply don’t get the point of everything, that it drives you crazy if your own setup even differs slightly from a manual or video!
You try to follow the instructions click by click and suddenly you can no longer follow them, because something is different from your own setup.

The old Anytype videos have driven me crazy and angry till the point of explosion!
Charlotte was surely a very nice person, therfor I’m ashamed to say it so harsh that her videos was nothing else then trash!
It was impossible to follow the instructions. She was talking and all the time clicking here and there, before the user’s eye have even had a chance to find the mouse pointer in the video screen.
I reduced the video speed to a quarter and it was still necessary to hit pause every second and to rewind back multiple times to get it what she did.
It has made me sooo angry!!!

And don’t underestimate this effect:
A new user wants to have some quick successes. Some quick “aha” experiences.
But we old fellow know that quick solutions lead to dead ends. It makes sense to think first about the result, about the structure, about the Types & Properties & Templates.
But to explain that, makes the video loooong.

The new user must through all this.
He needs to start and he need to run in this or that dead end. Because then he knows suddenly from own experience, why Properties and Templates and Tapes make sense.
All that needs time.

We old user have all found our way.
Our structure exists and it works for us. Now it’s relative quick to work with it, everything is already there.
But if someone starts and there is no configured Collection/Query and there is no Type, no Template, not even the Properties are configured … it’s frustrating to start so if you still don’t have an idea what’s possible and what to expect and how your own structure could look.

It’s easy to show a friend how quickly you can put some new data in your already existing setup.
But have you ever tried to explain to a friend how to start with Anytype from zero?
I can tell you, it’s hard to get someone “on board”.
They give already up even before we was able to come to the more interesting part.

In my opinion, Anytype is best for people who really have a problem that they wasn’t able to solve with other software. They must already have suffered A LOT and they must be in desperate need for a solution.
If that’s given, then they are ready for Anytype. Then they have the endurance to bite themself through all the problems that a beginner will have.

In my case, I came from OneNote. I lived with it for 10 years, but it wasn’t enough anymore. I needed a better solution. And I REALLY needed it!
After al lot research I came to Obsidian. I tried to love it and it is a good product, but I couldn’t get warm with it.
So I finally came to Anytype. For unknown reasons, I fell in love with it, although it was horrible 2,5 years ago!
But I have already suffered so much in the time before, that I stayed with it.
There was doubts about my decision. But luckily, there came update after update and each of them was a huge improvement!
When Razor implemented the Kroki and WireViz Embeds (especially for me!), I was so happy about that, that I simply had to stay!

I’ve sometimes written back then, that Anytype is like a girlfriend that I really love, but unfortunately she doesn’t wash her feet nor does she brush he teeth …
Now, 2,5 years later, she has washed feet and brushed teeth.
There are still some (a lot) things to complain though, but it’s complaining on a relative high level.

A new user must through all of this.
And I somehow believe there is no shortcut. Suffering is part of the way.

marius. nice feedback, and support, to my insight. thanks.

—CRITIQUE
ur kind critique is accepted and fair.
i do also have a bit of a different perspective on this.
im not about attacking peoples mistakes, or peoples shortcomings, or peoples difficult issues that we cant change so easily, or that we are taking ownership for. this deserves patience and grace.
im sure u noticed but i am (hopefully?) always saying ‘u guys’ or calling out “ANYTYPE”.
i am deliberately not using names.
kaye is cool. filip is cool… iv emailed with a couple of these peeps (and great point marius), yes indeed they are real ppl.
i am not talking about, or to, kaye/filip… i am talking to ANYTYPE.

i have no problem critiquing or maybe even attacking companies. (maybe i should rethink this a bit…?).
these guys - ANYTYPE - is gonna risk selling us a product/service after swimming in 10million dollars for an attempt to make profit on us… i dont talk to companies like they have a heart. ur a money making machine and i want my product to work.
AND, i dont want my time devoured bc ur product is carelessly developed and ill-designed.
theres millions of dollars over there - we know this is lame heartless consumer business model, that im also a part of. thus, i want my product well done. plz dont waste my valuable time (is what im subconsciously saying to companies vying for my resources).

good segue to another point of yours marius; i know enough of these programs now, that, ANYTYPE is actually built on some ideas that are not so difficult in scope. this app does not need to take weeks to learn. it shouldnt even take days to learn the gist of it. something is seriously lacking in the consideration of their UX dev.
and a LOT of these confusion are fairly easy fixes.

im still here bc i apparently believe in its potential.

—NOTE APPS
also marius. about the note app im coming from… great question.
MANY.

## (% of knowledge/ exposure/ use)

90% evernote (leaving bc paywall)
80% apple notes
80% notesnook
50% notion (beautiful and versatile, but many basic things are shockingly ignored)
20% obsidian
20% capacities

thanks again for the response marius, and the confrontation on some things. (i will reflect on these things)

Anytype offers a level of freedom second only to Obsidian, so you’ll need to design exactly how you want to store your contacts for yourself. I’ll share an essential and compact method that I personally recommend, so feel free to adapt it to your own workflow.

1. Clicking on the ‘Contacts’ type will display all your recorded contacts.
2. You can create a ‘Collection’ to manually organize and manage your list.
3. Alternatively, you can set up a ‘Query’ to automatically filter and manage your contacts based on specific conditions.
4. If your vault grows and tag organization starts to feel cluttered, try using a ‘Select’ relation instead.

@kaye

Doesn’t the term ‘Properties Panel’ situated between ‘Header’ and ‘Hidden’ in the Properties sub-category seem a bit odd? I think it would be better to refine it to something like ‘General.’

While these may seem like minor details, they are crucial in shaping the overall impression of the product.

As someone contributing to the localization of this product, I want to emphasize that this isn’t just an isolated case or a minor error in the source text. There are many instances where the same source string is used across different contexts, which frequently results in completely awkward phrasing in the localized UI.

I have registered several issues regarding this and other problems on Crowdin, so please look into them. (I have also reported some as bugs here on the community forum.)

Furthermore, I have requested approval permissions but have yet to receive any response. It feels like Crowdin is being neglected even more than the community. Please pay a bit more attention to it.

Even this [issue](https://crowdin.com/project/anytype-desktop/discussions/62), which is several years old, continues to be ignored.

About the terminology, to give you the rough big picture:

> [@iamchad](#):
>
> -victor m - NORWAY
> -stephen j - USA
> -troy s - AUSTRALIA

These are “Objects”.
In this concrete example, three separate Objects. All are from the Type “Human”.

And if you have created these three or a bunch of such Objects, it makes sense to organize them somehow.
For that we use “Collections”.
A Collection is a kind of folder, but more mighty. It lists all the Objects that are inside of it. And you have some different options how the list should look. The default layout for the appearance is “Grid”, a spreadsheet-like appearance.

A Collection can have multiple “Views”.
For each View you can chose the layout appearence of your choice.
You also can define multiple filter criteria, as well as criteria for sorting the entries. – But I don’t want to overwhelm you with too much details, it’s better to stay with the rough big picture for the moment.
It becomes hard enough soon …

OK, let’s start:
You could start with creating the Collection, or with one of the Objects.
Let’s start with an Object:
In the widgets menu, on the very right from your Space’s name, is a tiny symbol that looks like a “V”.
Click it, to choose what Type of Object you want to create. See here:

 ![image](https://community-static.anytype.io/original/3X/2/a/2ad55f442a86b8da7a49885868fa70837032bb78.png)

Chose “Human”.

Now it gets dirty complicated, because your Space is still “virgin”. The setup for the different Types wasn’t made, therefore the new created Object looks very “poor”:

 ![image](https://community-static.anytype.io/original/3X/3/3/33d49d18cf5c40a173c776d6c680ef7c89e41508.png)

To show you the difference, here is how it looks in my main Space if I create a new Human Object there:

 ![image](https://community-static.anytype.io/original/3X/9/2/92ab5598a54ac7d00c0552673a8d2a5dfc63d1c0.png)

As you see, the Type in my main Space shows more “Properties”.
There are even more Properties then visible here, as you can guess if you look at the scroll bar on the right.

OK, as we see, we can decide how a new created Object looks and what it brings with it.
For an Object from the Type “Human” it makes sense if it comes with Properties like (for example)

- Address
- Telefone number
- Email address
- Birthday
- Wife/Husband
- Childs
- Contact type (family member; work; customer; supplier; sport; study; etc.)
… and some more.

Now it’s time to become familiar with Properties, Types and Templates.
We have already chosen the Type: “Human”. But we can edit the Type and add more Properties to it.
We co that in the right side menu that appears if we click in the window’s top right on the little “i” inside a circle.

Sorry to say that, but here it becomes very complicated to explain everything you can do in the Properties menu. ☹
And honestly, I don’t like the usage myself. In my opinion, the older versions have had a clearer concept for Types and Templates, but that’s a long story. Now it is as it is and the team just works on some major concept changings.

Sorry, but you need to try to understand the principles.
The thing is: You can always edit the Type. If you change here some things, it will immediately affect all Objects of this Type.
Therefore you can stay relaxed if you can’t grasp the concept at the moment. You can do the complicated stuff later.
Only one thing:
It makes sense to put data like “Birthday” or “Telefone number” etc. into Property fields instead of simply typing these data on the canvas in the editor.
You will see the reason later, if we create a Collection, or a Query.
For the moment, simply play with it, test the things.

You have asked for Human Objects, therefore I’ve explained that. But it would have been more easy to start with a normal “Page” Object.
Why?
– Because a normal Page is not so much dependent form a bunch of Properties, as a Human Object is.
Starting with the Type “Human” has made the things more complicated. It forces you to deal with adding Properties to the Type; something that I would suggest to deal with later, if the more basic concepts are clear.

My images shows how you can create Objects of the Type you want.
You could play a little with Page Objects.
And you can try to create a Collection and to add existing Objects to that Collection.

I would say, try all that and if you have further questions, we look further.

I cannot respond to all your pings, but I will give a general answer here. Today, it is impossible for us to answer and execute on every bug, every github contribution, every feature request, solve for all localisation problems, etc. Again, we are a small team with a very complicated app local-first app on macOS, Windows, Linux, Android, and iOS. On top of that, there are local-only users, self-hosters, and a myriad of unique setups that our users desire because many of them are tinkerers.

It is true, that many issues are ignored or take a long time to resolve. We have made attempts to improve this, but I will be very clear: **the quantity is insurmountable for the size of team we have**. If this is unsatisfactory, I’m afraid not much is going to change and you should frankly consider whether or not it makes sense for you to use an app where you need a level of support that a small team cannot provide.

The vicious cycle we find ourselves in: the more time/resources we spend in answering all support tickets, community, etc. the less time we have in actually designing and implementing solutions. This is something I experience every day.

> honestly, he has a point. It might help a lot if every major UI overhaul came with a short, up-to-date YouTube walkthrough — just 3–5 minutes showing “here’s what changed and where things live now.”

This doesn’t help new users who are learning a new app for the first time. ‘What’s changed’ is for existing users, and for whom we believe will mostly figure it out.

There is a point that we’ve agreed on already: Anytype is hard to use for beginners. This is why Collections 2.0 among many other initiatives have spawned. Once that’s released, we of course planned to redo all resources. Again, everything is a matter of opportunity cost. If I spend time now to re-do all the guides, that will contribute low long term value. And for a startup, that’s just a recipe for disaster.

That’s fine, it’s your choice. But every ‘company’ you’re talking to (unless it’s a bot) has a human on the receiving end of your words. Those humans are flawed, have emotions, have the pressures of life, and experience things just like everybody else. On the internet, maybe this feels fine. But I believe that most people would not speak the way they do on the internet to the waiter that’s serving them in a restaurant, even though they’re all ‘money making machines’.

I remember that you (the Anytype team) had shared the “Simple Use Case” section. What’s the status on that?
At your specific request, I had made several suggestions (which received absolutely no feedback or response…). One of them was to have a Tutorial/wiki-style section available upon installation, which would explain and guide newcomers (and even serve as a reference for those who aren’t so new ^^).
Since I haven’t received any feedback, I don’t know if it was considered or even read, so I’m renewing the suggestion.
Such a space could even be collaborative: I’m sure you can find volunteers (take it from a Bug Detective) to keep it updated. Read-only access for everyone, write access for you and this team of volunteers. Include a “To be updated” tag to make tracking easier. And there you go—if everyone chips in a little, we might just end up with documentation that’s more or less up-to-date and easily accessible.

I fully understand and empathize with the need for startups and early-stage projects to ‘choose and focus.’ However, my point is that some of the issues currently being found are difficult to overlook, even considering that this is in a ‘Beta’ stage.

The appearance of ‘NaN’ characters across the UI is a bug that should typically only be acceptable in an ‘Alpha’ phase. I can’t help but wonder if this issue would still be left unaddressed if it were occurring in the English version. These kinds of problems make it difficult to recommend this software even to early adopters.

The same applies to the [linked issue](https://crowdin.com/project/anytype-desktop/discussions/62). The situation is even more jarring in Korean: while ‘Object’ is translated as a rigid IT technical term, users are forced to encounter this jargon even when they are simply looking for object emojis. While I can accept that features may be incomplete in Beta, encountering blatant mistranslations severely damages the credibility of the software, regardless of how good the other features or translations might be. I believe the loss of trust is a much higher cost compared to the effort required to simply split the translations.

I am not asking for a response to every single issue. What I mean is that there needs to be a more proactive approach to addressing these types of glaringly obvious problems.

I’d like to share my experience here on the jouney “Anytype”

### **There is no standard**

The first rule is that there is no standard setup for Anytype.
Every Anytype looks different, and that’s a good thing.
Some people don’t work with types at all and put everything in `pages`, while others create a `separate object type` for every topic.
There’s no right or wrong way to do it.
The beauty of Anytype is that it gives us exactly this freedom.
From `simple` to `highly complex` setups, you can build your system however it suits you.

### **Anytype is a journey**

Thanks to this freedom in configuration, after a while of working with Anytype, you’ll notice that you should change or rearrange something in your setup.
`That's okay` - the ideas and requirements come while you’re doing it.
A big mistake beginners make is expecting a perfect construct right from the start, where you’ve configured everything correctly for yourself from the beginning.

### **Take it easy**

If you don’t know where to start, one of the worst ideas is to copy or adopt other people’s concepts or setups.
There are some YouTube videos out there showing crazy setups for KMS that then don’t work for you and just cause frustration.
If you have no idea where to begin, the best thing is to `start simply with notes or pages`.
Here, you’ll realize that `tags` would be a good idea to roughly classify them.
Maybe you’ll notice that the information revolves around certain topics content-wise, so you create specific `types + properties` for them.
To gather them, you play around with `collections` and `queries` to see what fits you best.
All of this comes naturally over time - you just need to give it time, have patience, and enjoy reconfiguring.
I’ve completely rebuilt my system three times now and keep optimizing it to meet my standards more and more.
As a rough framework, I’ve been using the `PARA` method in my personal main space lately.
It gives me a classification for the current topic in every situation.
I can only warmly recommend this video: **[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgBS46Scw4Q](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgBS46Scw4Q)**
But even here: A 1:1 copy won’t make you happy—`you have to find your own way`.

I wish you lots of success and fun in finding your Anytype, and I hope my experiences could help you a bit.
