Selection gets partially "stuck" when side mouse buttons used on block menu

When user has a 5 button mouse or other mouse with “back” button:

  • Select/highlight blocks on a page, either with left-click and drag, or “back” (side) button click and drag
  • Use side/“back” button to attempt to click one of the block’s “3 dots” menus to manipulate/adjust it
  • Menu does not activate
  • Click anywhere off of text. Normally this deselects selected blocks, but that no longer works.
  • Use either mouse button to select blocks and notice that block selection is now “stuck” or “additive”, whereas normally if you make a new selection, the old one automatically goes away
  • The only way to get out of this “stuck” selection state is to left-click one of the block’s menus, or navigate away from the page

This is probably an infrequent problem, but seemed worth reporting.

Thanks! We added the bug in our tracker and will fix the secondary clicks on “3 dots” menu in the near future

I report it here, since it seems a similar problem.

Describe the bug

Sometimes selection of blocks gets “stuck”.

To Reproduce

Cannot reproduce it regularly, but it happens:

A. when selecting multiple blocks

B. when trying to move a block by left click-and-drag on the three-dots button but selection happens instead.

After this, problem shows as described in OP:

Expected behavior

Clicking anywhere off of selected blocks should deselect them.

Desktop:

  • OS: macOS 10.14.6
  • Devices: MacBook Pro 11.1
  • Version: 0.18.54

@gis Hi! Do you have this problem now?

@gis I think this bug is connected to [my post](Inconsistent block drag and drop experience). I too experience weird highlighting behaviour that I can’t ‘click out’ of.

@Kirill_Lem I cannot replicate it anymore, it works as expected.

This still occurs for me, but now with the mouse “Back” button working properly, it is easier to reproduce (or perhaps only reproducible) in situations where there is no back/history. Easiest way to get this is to open a page in a Set, then follow above instructions and it is easily reproducible.

Hey @Oshyan,
I tried to reproduce this.

The “back” history there is just “closing the pop up” for me.

Therefore, when I follow this step then, the pop up view just closes, when I press the “back” button on my mouse.

I can’t reproduce my original issue here, so I’d consider this closed (not surprisingly as it’s quite old). Perhaps @gis can test their issue as well, or report if they still see it sometimes.

I consider this closed too.
