See backlink contexts and locations in navigation

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

Not really a problem, but when there are multiple links to page A in page B, the navigation window doesn’t show this in either the backlinks for page A or the links for page B. This is okay for smaller pages, but for longer content it would definitely be more useful to see context for each backlink, rather than having to Ctrl-F to find mentions.

Describe the solution you’d like

My current vision is that the page links in the navigation pane would include some context for links instead of showing a preview of the beginning of the page; if there are multiple mentions or links to a page, some number of them would be highlighted. If there are too many mentions, we can limit to 3 highlighted initially and have an option to expand to see all mentions.

Describe alternatives you’ve considered

I understand that this might be hard because of the way your linking is set up (e.g. the graph is only between pages, not between individual text blocks). An alternative could be a way to search only for mentions or links to a specific page. Right now, if you search for the title of a page, plain text that includes the title is also highlighted, and you cannot search for @PAGE to only get mentions. Alternatively, maybe a separate pane containing this information.

Trying to search for the page name also highlights plaintext, which might not be desirable:
