Custom Sidebar Layout for Mobile (seperate from desktop)

WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND

For most people mobile and desktop have (slightly) different usecases when it comes to PKMs. While it is great that (almost) all settings are the same on mobile and desktop I believe it would be beneficial to have some custom or unique settings on mobile compared to the desktop experience.

On mobile the sidebar is more or less my homescreen. It even has a dedicated button to return to the sidebar. I would love to be able to customize the sidebar widgets on mobile without it changing it on the desktop experience.

Long story short: Custom sidebar widgets/layout for mobile that are seperate to desktop.

HOW COULD IT BE DONE

This could be a simple setting or toggle in the mobile app: Custom Sidebar On/Off. When it is on, any changes made are only on mobile. When it is off, it sync or changes back to the same settings/layout as on desktop.

Optional: This could even be a locale on this device setting only. So you could have a different sidebar on mobile, on personal PC, on bussiness PC, etc.

REAL WORLD USE CASES

As I stated, mobile use of a PKM is often different compared to desktop use.

For example, I love having a “reminder” set, where I can add things I need to remember. Which could be anything from a shopping list to a to-do. Having this set be the only widget on mobile would allow me to quickly check on the go if I need to remember something.

On desktop however, I don’t need to see this set in the sidebar and I rather have a favorites, recent and sets visible.

ADDITIONAL CONTEXT

Exactly what I said here

So, +1!

HOW COULD IT BE DONE

  • Having specific sidebar configuration for Desktop and for Smartphone
  • Having a specific sidebar for Smartphone (more than only configuration of elements in in : smartphones work differently from desktops, which means that sidebars may have to be set up differently… different displays, different content rules, etc.).
  • Having a list of configuration and having a option specitif to each installation /device to choose which configuration
