"Anytype Behavior" that should be optional

WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND

Here is a list of changes that were made with good intentions but actually giving me a worse user experience. Therefore I suggest to take these changes back or make these types of changes only optional.

1 Lines create an empty block

Bad use cases (where the empty block needs to be deleted) :

Actual Intention:

  • you can continue typing

Suggestion/How could it be done:

  • Let users decide themselves if they wanna create a block.
  • Make it an optional function.

2 Turning a block/s into a toggle block opens the toggle block/s

Similar actions with a different outcome:

  • turning an empty block/s to a toggle blocks, opens the toggle block/s
    but
  • turning an empty toggle block into a toggle block via command and the toggle block is closed.

Bad use cases (where i need to close the toggle block afterward):

Actual Intention:

  • You can directly type into your new created toggle block

Suggestion/How could it be done:

  • Let users decide themselves if they wanna open there toggle block.
  • Make it an optional function.

Alternative behavior:

  • Only the first block (with text!) turns into a open toggle block if multiple blocks are selected.

3 Drag and drop blocks onto a block adds the block to the top.
Similar actions with a different outcome:

  • Moving blocks to an object adds the blocks to the end
  • Moving blocks to another block adds the blocks to the top.

Bad use cases (when every moved block needs to be rearranged afterwards):

Actual intention: I don’t even know tbh.

Suggestion/How could it be done:

  • Let users decide themselves if they wanna get there blocks added to the top.
  • Make it an optional function.
  1. New relations are added to the left instead to the right in sets
Bad use cases (when I have to drag the relation to the right position):

Suggestion/How could it be done:

  • Users expect when adding relations one after another that they show up in the same order as they had select them not backwards. Therefore simply changing this behavior would solve the problem. Alternatively it can be offered as an optional setting.

ADDITIONAL CONTEXT / REAL WORLD USE CASES

I like to have a clean, controlled user experience without any extras I might not need at the end. That’s why I can only hope that these changes will be taken back or just offered as optional settings.

Hi @XxxBalCion, you are still on a roll! Thanks for posting these ideas. Is it OK if I post this general topic to the General Discussion category, so you can create separate Feature Requests for each item (mostly copy-paste I think)? You can then link your FR’s in the general topic.
